Welcome to the Kumon Chiswick Study Centre.

The study centre opened its doors in 1994 and provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities; currently the youngest students at the centre are three years old and the oldest are 17 years old.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Over the years the Kumon Chiswick Study Centre has become an essential part of the community. The majority of our students live within the area and attend local schools. Along with the Instructor, Elsie Nassar, the centre’s team of 13 trained assistants are on hand to provide guidance to every student when necessary, although our aim is to encourage independent study as far as possible.

At every visit, students have the opportunity to see the Instructor before they leave, giving them the chance to talk about their progress and goals, and to receive praise for their achievements. 

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

About the Instructor

Chiswick - Elsie Nassar

My name is Elsie Nassar and I have been the Instructor at the Kumon Chiswick Study Centre since 1994.

Before my job as a Kumon Instructor, I worked in the city for a stockbroker company as the manager of their IT Department. I believe the years spent at the company increased my knowledge of the variety of teaching methods, all of which I have put towards my career with Kumon.

I love the opportunity to be involved with the education of individual students over many years; seeing them develop skills from primary school to GCSE level and beyond is so rewarding.

My team and I work hard to ensure all the students successfully develop their maths and English skills, as well as learn to be confident, independent learners.

I could not achieve what I do in class without the great team I have. One of the real benefits of working with a good team is the collective aim of working towards a common goal. We make a real difference to our students by working together to give our students the best possible learning experience.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

My child has been learning with Elsie at the Chiswick Kumon centre for years. I cannot thank Elsie enough for all her hard work. My child currently attends English and Maths and he has come a long way. His reading, reading comprehension,vocabulary, writing, grammar, addition, timetables, substraction and division have improved massively. Elsie is very professional, patient and very organised. My two daughters have been attending kumon for such a long time now, and I must say that every minute of hard work and effort has definitely paid off. My eldest daughter started at the age of 4 and has been attending for 9 years. Throughout the time she has occasionally come across challenging topics, the communication we have with our local tutor Elise is absolutely exceptional. She is amazing and very understanding in every circumstance, and adjusts everything to suit every childs’ individual needs. We cannot recommend Elsie and kumon enough!

We started our Kumon journey after our godfather’s daughter did exceptionally well in Maths. He advised - “ do the Kumon daily “ We signed up In our son’s year 3 with the Kumon Centre run by Elsie in Chiswick. It wasn’t easy. Daily practice could be tricky at times. We adjusted the amount of work several times to suit our our son‘s needs and growing abilities. We tried to complete every day, even during holidays. It paid off for us also! All the hard work of our son led to him being offered a place in a prep school where 16 children took the assessment for one space. Today he is happy in his new school telling us - “ I think I am dreaming being so happy in my new school. “ We know it was his daily working. The Kumon programme is very interesting - we especially enjoyed the English. His vocabulary is very strong for his age group and his Maths is at least one year higher. We would never have reached it without the support of Elsie and her team. Thank you so much again.

My son has attended the Kumon Centre in Chiswick for a number of years for mathematics and has seen a real and sustained improved in his maths ability during that time. Elsie and her team are always helpful and responsive and I would definitely recommend the Kumon program and the Centre at Chiswick Town Hall.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
