The Kumon Ditton and Molesey Study Centre has been established since 1980. The study centre caters for all ages and abilities. Students range in age from three to 18 years old.

The programmes are individualised to each student’s needs; we have students who find maths/English difficult, those who need to develop good work skills, to students who need to be challenged further. Our aim is for every child to become an independent, advanced learner, with a positive attitude to study.

Students are given time slots for their study at the centre to ensure they get the support they need in class. There is a separate table for newly enrolled students to provide one-to-one support and to closely monitor and develop their self-learning, correction and other study skills.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies. A team of trained assistants are also on hand to support each student’s development.

About the Instructor

Kiran Rao - Ditton and Moseley Study Centre

Welcome, my name is Kiran Rao and I’ve been the Instructor at Kumon Ditton and Molesey Study Centre since April 2010.

Previously, I had a very successful career in marketing and consulting, followed by teaching. During my tenure as a secondary maths teacher, I realised I found the success of my students most rewarding and, as I was aware of the superior learning that Kumon offers, I decided to become a Kumon Instructor.

I am extremely proud I have been able to nurture hundreds of local children on the Kumon programmes, many of whom studied with me for several years and went on to the complete the programmes.

Having been a Kumon parent for many years, I have personally experienced the benefits of Kumon for my children. From my experience, Kumon is a family decision and the entire family plays a role in the success of the child. Communication between myself and the parent is also very important since it helps me to understand each child better.

My goal is to help your child achieve success in maths and English. I have a real passion for instructing children and am eager to enable them to realise their full potential.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
