The newly opened Kumon Arborfield Study Centre is accepting new students! Classes are available at the Arborfield Green Community Centre on Tuesdays and The Coombes CoE Primary School on Fridays, providing a pair of convenient settings for parents and children.

The Kumon Arborfield Study Centre offers both maths and English study programmes to help your child achieve their academic goals. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong foundations for learning and to build skills and confidence for their future, all while providing a positive learning experience.

Kumon study aims to ensure that every child develops a love for learning. Traditional maths and English tuition methods help students progress, but Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher’s guidance.

Students complete daily worksheet study to develop ability and fluency over time, progressing in small steps and building confidence. Your child’s Kumon Instructor will set work at just the right level to challenge and keep them engaged, regardless of age or school year. This means that they can strengthen their key skills or progress beyond school grade level without restriction. Kumon offers a cost-effective and convenient way to help your child build strong English and maths skills for a successful future.

About the Instructor

Arborfield - Yukiko Sharrocks
The Arborfield Study Centre was established in 2024 and is managed by Elite Kumon Instructor, Yukiko Sharrocks, which has helped hundreds of children to develop their maths and English skills.

She has been awarded the Elite Kumon Instructor award for the quality of her instruction and nurturing higher-level students over their school levels, through the unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes. Yukiko pursues the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study for pre-school, primary and secondary school students. Yukiko has also nurtured many students to become Kumon Completers in her 27 years as an Instructor. Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day and build key foundations for learning.

In addition to developing academic ability, we also support children in developing their study skills, confidence and mindset, which is vital to long-term success. Every child is different, and so, their programme of study should be, too. Our individualised programme enables students to progress at their own pace, so they can realise their potential and experience success.

Kumon is the world's largest supplementary educational provider, with over 4 million students studying on the programmes.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
