About our centre

Online Only Class: Saturday 10am - 11am

Welcome to the Ayr Study Centre, conveniently located in the conference room of the Citadel Leisure Centre, a bright and warm room with easy access and plenty of space for families to wait whilst their children study and ample parking in the Citadel car park.

We cater to children from pre-school all the way through to Highers and beyond, including children finding maths or English challenging at school through to those wanting to be stretched. My assistants and I oversee students as they complete their work sheets, making sure they are supported in their academic understanding as they develop their work skills and study attitude.

By focusing on the core fundamentals of maths and English, the Kumon Maths and English Programmes equip your child with the necessary tools for success. Through developing these skills, we can help your child will develop into the confident, self-driven learner they have the potential to be.

Olivia Hannah

About your Instructor

My name is Olivia Hannah, and my journey as an educator began in 2002 when I moved to South Korea to teach English as a foreign language. On returning to Scotland, I began to study for my Post-Graduate Certificate in Primary Education and qualified as a primary school Teacher in 2006. I have worked with children of all ages and stages, from nursery to secondary and, during this time, I became fascinated by the way a child’s mind develops and learns. I have always loved witnessing that lightbulb moment when a student suddenly ‘gets it’!

My own Kumon journey began over 20 years ago when I was hired as an Assistant at a study centre in Glasgow. I quickly realised how superior a learning method Kumon is and loved watching the children as they developed into confident individuals, happy to face any challenge. From 2014 - 2018, I ran a successful study centre in London and now, having moved back to Scotland, am keen to work as an Instructor in the Ayr area!

Working as a Kumon Instructor ties into my passion for education, my interest in helping children to learn, and to helping them to learn for themselves. I am excited to be bringing Kumon to Ayr and feel privileged to be in a position where I can help children get the most out of their education.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
