The centre provides maths and English study programmes for students of all ages and abilities.

The study centre opened its doors in 2005 and now supports over 80 students of all ages and abilities, from local schools and outlying areas.

Students at the centre currently range in age from four to 16 years old and have started Kumon for many different reasons. Success for some could mean gaining confidence they never had before or improving their concentration skills, whilst others enjoy the fruits of their success by accessing higher groups in maths and English at school.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. The study centre staff believe that every student is unique and is therefore given a study plan tailored to their individual needs.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

My name is Sandra Axten and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found a career I’m truly passionate about.

I was introduced to Kumon, as a parent, when we enrolled our son in our local Kumon study centre after realising that he was struggling with primary school maths.  Having seen the progress he made during one particular summer break, I realised the power of Kumon in terms of building confidence and instilling a strong study discipline.

During my 15 years as a Kumon Instructor, I have had the privilege of working with many parents who are truly dedicated to their child’s education. Through daily study, commitment and determination, students have excelled in ways that they would never have thought possible!

Many of our students are currently working ahead of school grade level and it fills me with pride to see each individual achieving their personal goals.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

My daughter started Kumon online since year 3. She enjoyed being with Kumon as her teachers (especially Sandra and Pauline) both were very friendly and supportive of her learning. Joining Kumon has helped my daughter so much in her school work and she has improved her maths skills. I can see the results that being with Kumon for 2 years, my daughter is now 2 years ahead in maths, how wonderful! And it’s all because of the two wonderful teachers (Sandra and Pauline), my massive thank you to you both for your great support.

Amazing! My son had to repeat a school year due to changing schools from England to Scotland. So I was concerned about him falling behind his peers. But ever since putting him into Kumon, his math skills has improved significantly. Even his school teachers are very impressed. The staff at kumon are very kind and helpful, providing any help that may be needed. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking of putting their child into kumon!!!

Love Kumon work. The tutor Pauline and Sandra (bearsden) which r so kind and professional. My boy Jason which was falling behind in English. He all the time struggled with English. We really concerned about his English. This maybe because English is not my mother language. So Jason rarely speak English at home. Since we started Kumon on end of October last year actually. Jason made a huge improvement in English which surprised to me and his teacher. Love Kumon idea which need right answers in the timing. Everyday practices makes Jason so well. He started from A1. He worked hard on the homework given from Kumon. He took tests after every single level. Kept going and achieves very good scores. Now he is in D2 level. So proud of him and tks to tutors Pauline and Sandra. They kept tracking up Jason's progress and give out the homework which best suitable for Jason. Now Jason becomes very confident and head of his level in the class. The teacher in P5 gives very positive comments on his English. Love and highly satisfied with this huge improvements and results. I like to share this experiences to someone who struggling English like Jason. Really appreciated with Kumon and tutors. Tk u soooo much for your efforts (Pauline and Sandra) . Xx

My children were both previously a pupil at Bearsden Kumon centre for Mathematics and English. The environment and guidance provided by the faculty was great. The staff were very supportive and encouraging. Through their journey at Kumon I have seen excellent results. It has evidently boosted my children’s confidence in school and even a couple of years ahead in school work. I am very thankful to Sandra and the rest of the staff for guiding my children to where they are now. Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
