Books come way down the list of things children enjoy reading
A survey conducted by The National Literacy Trust has claimed that, worryingly, books come way down the list of things children enjoy reading. The survey conducted amongst 18,000 children aged eight to 17 shows that one in every six read no books whatsoever.

Calls for the compulsory teaching of mathematics beyond 16
A report by the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education concludes that all young people should study some form of mathematics to the age of 18 in order to better prepare them for higher education and the world of employment. In order to do this, additional courses need to be developed for study at the post-16 level.
