Please note: Classes running from 5.30pm to 7pm on Monday to Thursday are all held online.

The Kumon Bristol, Redland Study Centre has provided high quality individualised learning to hundreds of local children for more than fifteen years. We are a well-established education provider in the area, with a great reputation among local parents and we stand out as being one of the first Kumon centres in the UK to provide blended learning - offering both in-person and online classes.

The centre proudly offers students the opportunity to study via KUMON CONNECT, enabling students to complete their daily study on a tablet and receive regular feedback from their Instructor via this digital platform.

About the Instructor

Instructor Al Shaw of the Bristol Redland centre

Guiding others to learn has always been an important part of my life. After nearly 20 years of working in the charitable sector, I joined Kumon as an Area Manager, supporting study centres in the West of England. This experience opened my eyes in a new way to the power of individualised learning. The combination of guided self-study, individualised instruction and world-class materials was a powerful one.

Inspired by what I saw, in 2008 I became the first Kumon employee in the UK to take the step of opening my own Kumon centre as a dedicated Instructor. I have not looked back. It's been a really interesting and rewarding journey. I appreciate the quality of the learning materials and the fact that children's learning is always the focus within Kumon. I appreciate the fact that children actually master the subject, rather than just gaining a superficial knowledge of it.

In later life, the ability of our students to teach themselves whatever they need to or want to learn is one that will be of great value to them, as human knowledge continues to increase dramatically. I very much enjoy enabling children to progress as far as they can through guided self-learning.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

My daughter attended Kumon for the last 2.5 years since lockdown and without question it has helped her make up what she'd missed in remote learning. She learned to apply herself to working independently, by setting aside time each day to do her Kumon work, and she was excited and motivated by her achievements. It made her realise that she could do it by herself and this approach has helped with her overall learning skills. Kumon is an excellent method of study that I was very lucky to have had access and experienced myself as a child. I noticed so much the benefit that I wanted my daughter to have the same experience. She started whilst at primary and continued through secondary. It has helped and given her so much confidence with both Maths and English, skills that shell will be keep throughout her life. I would like to thank Al for this great program (Kumon class) that enable my son to improve his Mathemarics in school. My son always had a low score than I decided to sign him up with Kumon.I have witnessed my son's great improvement in his mathematics .Today he received the star of the week certificate from school due to this huge improvement in his Maths score. Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
