About our centre
Please note: Saturday classes are held at The Grange Academy, London Road, Bushey, Hertfordshire WD23 3AA
The centre was first opened in 1995, offering individualised maths and English study programmes to students of all ages and abilities.
The centre offers a friendly atmosphere to ensure students develop good concentration and confidence. All students are welcome to attend class either once or twice a week.
Students at the study centre range from two to 17 years old. It is great to start early as your child will have a better head start and the longer they stay with Kumon, the better the results. The unique Kumon maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
The centre has a number of assistants who help the Instructor to run class. A few are parents who have children already on the Kumon programmes and three assistants have completed the programmes themselves. Therefore, they all understand the work involved and are all very approachable.

About your Instructor
My name is Kamelia Farhangi and I have been the Instructor at the Bushey Study Centre since 2010.
My daughter started her Kumon journey when I joined Kumon as an Instructor. I have seen her concentration level improve immensely and I truly believe that the programme was a key factor in helping her pass all the 11+ entrance exams. Doing so well in the exams and getting into a very good school has made her much more confident in herself and she is not scared of tackling new topics at school. She truly is on her way to becoming a self-learner.
I love working with children and find it rewarding seeing their sense of achievement when they pass a test or understand a previously difficult topic. I am committed to helping all children achieve their potential and am very passionate about education and thoroughly enjoy the challenge of helping children in achieving their potential to the fullest. I believe in not only developing the academic side of the children but also in developing their study skills and building their concentration levels. It is very rewarding to see a shy, struggling student become so much more confident after a few months of Kumon study.
Frequently Asked Questions
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
