Welcome to the Kumon Cambridge West Study Centre.

The centre supports students of all ages and abilities, many of which attend local schools and live in the surrounding community. Others travel from the nearby areas of Cambourne, Histon, Coton, Girton, and Milton.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Through daily completion of the Kumon worksheets students develop good study habits and key skills such as concentration, stamina, perseverance, and independent learning. Students receive a free assessment before embarking upon their individualised programme of study, and will then attend the centre up to twice a week, with work to complete at home over the rest of the week.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

Valentino is a wonderful instructor with so much patience for my little one who started when she had just turned 3years. At the start my daughter could barely sit still and focus for even a minute. But in the 10 months Valentino has been working with her she has made amazing progress. She is so focused and will sit through her whole kumon session of Maths and English uninterrupted and with no problem. Most importantly my daughter loves kumon and will not want to skip a day of her daily work. Valentino has made kumon fun. Her advice is insightful and feedback extremely useful. She is clearly passionate and very experienced and her opinion is extremely valued. I feel that Valentino is on this journey with me as a parent, providing that guidance and support along the way. My daughter will be starting reception in a few months and am confident that she will have a strong start because of the Kumon.

My 7 year old was under achieving at school, we were recommended kumon by a family teacher. Since starting just over two months ago, she's gone from under achieving in every subject to being where she needs to be in every subject. I never thought we'd have such success so quickly. I have also noticed a huge confidence boost when working alone with much more attention to detail. I can highly recommend Kumon with Miss Valentina.

My children have been attending this Kumon centre for over two years now. We have consistently found the staff to be highly professional, thorough, organised, kind and supportive. The programmes take dedication, but there is some flexibility. Children progress at their own individual pace, which makes this a really efficient way to learn. It is so refreshing to find a reading programme which teaches children to read using 'real' books and real words too. It is also refreshing to find a place where children who don't necessarily 'fit the box' are nurtured and can succeed.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
