About our centre

The Cheetham Hill Study Centre welcomes children of all ages and abilities. We want every child to maximise their potential and always aim higher in life.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes purse the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

The Kumon journey for your child could begin from as early an age three. Each child will learn to work independently and confidently through individualised study. This confidence will reflect in all areas of the child's work allowing them to excel beyond their years at school. The programmes are designed to improve your child’s academic development alongside their study skills, posture, routine, stamina and concentration.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

Masooma Hasan

About your Instructor

My name is Masooma Hasan and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Cheetham Hill Study Centre.

Prior to becoming an Instructor, I worked as a teacher for adults in college, as well as a secondary school teacher specialising in ICT.

Like most parents I felt my child had potential and all she needed was someone to help her achieve it. I enrolled her at our local Kumon centre, and within the first year I could see improvements in her study skills, concentration and confidence, and she was now working above her school grade.

I felt as though I needed to re-think my own career and was feeling very optimistic about becoming a Kumon Instructor. Not only had I experienced how successful this programme was for my daughter, I had a dream of seeing other children achieve their goals. In 2012, I decided to hand in my notice and train to become an Instructor; I haven’t looked back since!

I have seen so many children achieve great results on the Kumon programmes. I feel so proud and fortunate to provide children with the chance to make a difference to their lives by helping them to develop good study habits, and to be confident, independent learners.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
