The centre has been operating in the area for over 20 years and offers maths and English programmes for children of all ages and abilities. The unique Kumon programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident and independent learners through individualised study.

The class atmosphere is enjoyed by all the students as they become part of our Kumon family. They become well known by all the members of staff who support them through their study plan and the exciting Kumon journey. All the staff encourage students to become independent learners through guidance and support. Our centre has a great team who hold the success and happiness of the children very close to their hearts.

Parents and students are regularly updated on their study progress and the study plan which lies ahead of them.

About the Instructor

Education is something I care deeply about and I have a great belief that students can grow and develop by having the right level of support from teachers, Instructors, parents and guardians alike. I believe that through the globally recognised Kumon Method of Learning, I can ensure that each child is given the best chance of a good start in life.

I have been involved with Kumon for over nine years. Firstly, through my own children, who have been attending the Elstree Study Centre for many years. In 2011, I joined the centre as an assistant to support the early learners and finally took over the centre in 2012 from a very inspirational Instructor.

I have a great pleasure seeing my students flourish through the Kumon programmes. Every little success is very important and all the students know how proud I am of them. I am a part of a very important triangle of the student, the parent and the Instructor, guiding the children to their success. I work with each of the families and their children individually. The study plan and my assistance is tailored to meet their needs. The parents' role is invaluable and they are always welcome to contact me to discuss the children's progress outside the centre hours.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

Highly recommend the Elstree Kumon centre run by lovely Hedy. The attention she gives my children is second to none, even going the extra mile by visiting us in our home when help is needed. My daughter was not doing so well in Eng and Maths. Since she started her Kumon journey I could see a big difference in terms of using new words, speaking amd writing more grammatically, quick in counting and use of diff mathematical applications. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to support their kids especially for parents who are busy and can't get enough time to sit with kids to teach! He tutors in Borehamwood are very friendly with the kids and quick to respond to any concerns:) The teachers are very kids friendly and respond to parent concerns very quickly.

Hedy is fantastic and my 5 year old son has been enjoying learning and practising the worksheets at Kumon and at home. It’s a huge help to always have contact when I have questions about the app and to learn about his progress each week after his session at Kumon. Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
