About our centre

Welcome to the Fareham Study Centre, which provides a friendly and supportive environment for students of all ages and abilities.

Children from three years old and upwards attend the centre up to twice weekly. All students are supported as they undertake their Kumon journey, achieving maximum progress from their studies both in class and at home.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and all other aspects of adult life.

Enrolment and assessment meetings can be held at the centre with prior arrangement with the Instructor, Janet Snell.

Communication with parents is highly valued and Instructor, Janet, ensures parents receive regular updates regarding the progress of their children.

This centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here to find out more.

As an Ofsted registered centre, parents can make considerable savings through various schemes.

Janet Snell

About your Instructor

Hello! My name is Janet Snell and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Fareham Study Centre.

Throughout my career I have worked with many types of students, from those that struggle to make progress to those that excel at it, and from those that lack confidence to those that are over confident and make unnecessary errors.

I believe young people today need not only excellent qualifications but also excellent life skills, such as the ability to problem solve, to be resilient, maintain focus and persevere, to reflect and adapt to current needs. This leads me to explain why I love the Kumon approach!

In my experience I have found that individualising learning enables students to progress beyond their expectations, leaving them highly motivated and eager to achieve more. So right from day one I will support your child in developing those study skills that are essential for life. I want every student in my classes to learn to focus, pay attention to detail, persevere until every problem is solved and to believe in themselves! I want all of my students to become self-motivated, independent learners, who can thrive on whatever challenges the future may hold.

I am excited to have discovered Kumon and proud to become an Instructor. I look forward to welcoming you and your child to my centre.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
