The Kumon Hanham Study Centre has recently relocated from Kingswood and opened in 2012.

We offer study programmes in both maths and English for all ages and abilities. The youngest student currently studying at the Hanham centre is three years old and the eldest is 15. Many of the students at the centre attend local schools and live within the community, although some travel from nearby neighbourhoods.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each student by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Each session is staffed by the fully qualified Kumon Instructor and specialised assistants, who undergo regular training to enable them to support the students. The staff work together to observe, assess, praise and provide feedback to encourage and guide the students. Feedback is also communicated with parents by phone, email and during face-to-face parent communication meetings, which happen twice yearly.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

As an Ofsted registered centre, parents can make considerable savings through various schemes.

About the Instructor

Instructor Nikki Warr of the Hanham centre

My name is Nikki and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Hanham Study Centre. I took over the Kingswood centre in January 2016 and we have now relocated to Hanham.

Education has always been an important part of my life and, after having my son, I decided to become a teacher. I taught maths and English for 12 years in a local secondary school, whilst also privately tutoring students aged five to 18.

I believe an excellent education is the most important gift we can give our children and being an educator is extremely rewarding. Observing children gain in confidence and independence, whilst not being afraid to make mistakes is a privilege. It is a pleasure to witness students realising that they have unlimited potential.

I very much look forward to meeting you and helping your children mature and progress. If you would like further information to help you decide if Kumon is right for your family, please contact me to book a free assessment. This is a meeting between the child, parent and Instructor and usually lasts no longer than an hour and a half. At this meeting, we can determine the ideal starting point for your child and together we can plan for their future.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
