About this centre

In-Centre Class available KUMON CONNECT available Online Class available

The study centre opened in 2010 at the East Malling Institute, in the heart of the village.

All ages and abilities are welcome at the centre, where currently the students are aged between six and 13. Students benefit from a personal approach at the Kumon Kings Hill and East Malling Study Centre, where both Instructor and assistants are keen to meet the needs of every child.

In the classroom, students enjoy completing their work and are observed by the Instructor who offers appropriate guidance, support and praise. At each visit, a student will spend 30 - 40 minutes on each subject and up to an hour for both maths and English. Upon leaving the centre, each student is given daily worksheets to be completed at home.

Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.

The Kumon Kings Hill and East Malling Study Centre’s long-term goal is to provide students with the self-assurance to take their learning into their own hands, increasing their motivation to succeed. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Please note: Saturday classes are held at Kings Hill Community Centre, 70 Gibson Drive, Kings Hill, West Malling, ME19 4LG.

About the Instructor

Tony Capozzi - East Malling Study Centre

My name is Tony Capozzi and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Kings Hill and East Malling Study Centre. I am delighted to be running a Kumon study centre and continuing to bring the internationally renowned programme to the local area.

Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with children of all ages as a teacher and rugby coach. I always enjoyed helping children to make the most of their learning and to achieve their potential.

With my wide experience in teaching and coaching, I was attracted to becoming a Kumon Instructor in order to develop a more individualised learning programme for children to work independently and extend their learning beyond the classroom.

When the prospect of taking over the Kings Hill and East Malling study centre arose, I saw it as a perfect opportunity to support students through their Kumon journey. As an Instructor, it is very rewarding to witness the sense of achievement that a student gains when mastering a new topic or skill.

At the centre each week I am able to observe students completing their worksheets and offer guidance and encouragement to progress in a positive way. Being a Kumon Instructor is extremely worthwhile and I look forward to helping many more students achieve their potential in the years to come.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
