About this centre

Online Class available KUMON CONNECT available

Maidstone South Kumon Centre has been established for nine years. It is based in the Loose area of Maidstone in the YMCA Complex. It is a vibrant and busy area with sports facilities and a café alongside the Centre.

Kumon Maidstone South welcomes children of all abilities and many of the current children have joined through personal recommendation. They range from pre-schoolers to GCSE children. There are five staff at the centre including Jackie the instructor who oversees the programme.
Kumon maths and English programmes enable children to build key learning foundations. They not only help your child to become confident learners but also equip them to build the skill of self-learning that will support them with being independent in their future. All our programmes are individualised so that they are created for children to work at their own pace and level.

After an initial assessment, your child will follow an individual study programme based at just the right level. They complete daily worksheets building skills and fluency in small manageable steps, as well as attending their study centre once a week.

Kumon study does not follow any curriculum and work is set regardless of age enabling children to revisit topics or advance far beyond school material without restriction.

The centre is also able to offer Kumon Connect where worksheets are based on a digital device and accessed at home, in class or available if they need to take their work with them somewhere else.

This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here to find out more.

About the Instructor

Maidstone South - Jackie Gale
Welcome to our centre at Maidstone South. My name is Jackie Gale, and I am the Instructor at this established centre where the excellent team support many children who come here.

I have been working in education for over thirty years, some of which has been as an assistant headteacher, some as an advisory teacher and the rest in the classroom. Over the years I have worked with children from nursery through to year 13. I have a lot of experience working with children with SEN, particularly those with autism.

I live in Maidstone and have four grown up children who have had varying experiences within the education system. Having seen the benefits of the Kumon method with children that I currently work with in eleven plus classes, I highly recommend the approach. I have seen how their well-developed learning skills have enabled them to complete their tasks so confidently.

My philosophy for learning is that education for children should be a joint approach from all those that support them, which is why I believe that communication with parents and carers is one of the most important parts of our role here at Maidstone South.

It is important to me that children come to our centre and develop learning skills for life whilst being happy to be here. My hope is that they will leave here as confident learners who have belief in themselves and what they are able to achieve.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
