The Kumon Oadby Study Centre was established in 2012 following the relocation of the Blaby Centre, opened in 2003. In the spring of 2018 the centre moved into new commercial premises, right in the heart of Oadby.

We provide high quality tuition in maths and English to children of all ages and abilities. The Kumon programmes support children of preschool, primary and secondary school age, as well as those in further education.

In addition to developing academic ability, we also support children in developing their study skills, confidence and a can-do attitude; which is vital to long-term success. Every child is different, and so their programme of study should be too. Our individualised programmes enable students to progress at their own pace, so they can realise their potential and experience success.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Kumon is the world's largest supplementary educational provider, with over 4 million students studying on the programmes.

About the Instructor

Smita Ghelani - Oadby

My name is Smita Ghelani and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Oadby Study Centre. I have been a Kumon Instructor since 2002 when I opened my first centre in Market Harborough.

I became an Instructor after seeing how the Kumon programme benefitted my daughter. She went on to complete the programme and is now a Kumon Instructor herself, as is my husband Bhadresh. I am passionate about the Kumon programmes because I have seen it work. I strongly believe in individualised learning and place a great deal of importance on developing strong study skills. I’m fortunate to be able to work with students of all abilities to help them to achieve their full potential. In my centre I aim to nurture happy, confident students who are able to discover new learning for themselves, ultimately working above school grade level.

I am proud to be an Elite Instructor, based on high quality instruction and student progress in my centre and I have presented at Kumon conferences to fellow Kumon Instructors from around the world.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

Where should I start. Thank you, Thank you Smita, & Mr G. The kids love digital Kumon & I can’t believe how amazing & relieved I feel. No paperwork to correct, no arguments where they’ve hidden the pages. It’s been the best thing ever in our family. Digital Kumon has changed the whole dynamics of doing Kumon in this house. We can track their progress and see what went wrong and how long they take & Smita has been updating regularly with their progress. Kid’s are more attentive at finishing the work on time and doing it in one go. The data shown is outstanding. And a special thanks to Smita for being on top of things and making sure the kids are always finishing their work within the time frame and the right number of pages. Kumon Oadby is the best Kumon Centre hands down. The instructors Smita and Mr G really take each students progress seriously and will do anything they can do help a child. They take personal interest in each child's development and give a lot of their precious time to them. My kids have been going here for the last 5 years and I can't think of sending them elsewhere. Mr G and Smita go out of their way to help, professionally and personally. I would highly recommend their centre if you are thinking of starting Kumon for your kids.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
