About our centre
Does your child dread maths class? Laura's passion for learning is contagious! She can help your child turn maths and English into their favourite subjects using the Kumon method.
We are thrilled to announce the opening of a new Kumon centre at Plumcroft Primary School, led by Laura, the experienced and passionate Instructor from the Kumon Woolwich, Glyndon Centre. For the past 15 years, Laura has witnessed countless students blossom with confidence, going from "I can't do it" to "Yes, I can!" Her enthusiasm is truly inspiring.
At the new Kumon Plumcroft Primary centre, Laura is excited to utilise the Kumon method to help students excel in their learning. The programme fosters a love of learning and strong foundational skills in Maths and English, all while allowing students to progress at their own pace.
The centre is open to both Plumcroft Primary students and external students!

About your Instructor
My name is Laura Obasi and I'm the Instructor at the Kumon Plumcroft Primary Study Centre. My role is to support your child as he or she goes through their Kumon journey. I enjoy seeing students advance to work not yet covered in school and which they enjoy doing. I am deeply committed to my centre's educational mission to help each student reach and perform at their full potential. I am continually amazed at the work being done by the students at my centre.
My interest in becoming a Kumon Instructor started when my son joined the programme at the age of four. Immediately, I noted the difference it made in his mastery of maths and English and how he developed self-confidence and discipline. His ongoing success is achieved through his own dedication and hard work and I aim to instil these values in each of my students. I truly believe in the Kumon method and the skills, attitude and academic benefits it supports in each child. Each student is important to me and I care not only about their academic advancement but about their overall well-being.
My greatest achievements are enabling my students to gain self-confidence, allowing them to become independent self-learners and helping them to build strong study habits. I have a true passion for education and a desire to help children succeed in life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
