About our centre

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability, and help them to reach their potential and foster a love of learning. Through individualised programmes with work set at just the right level, your child will be able to build strong learning foundations, not only developing ability in maths and English but transferable skills that will help them achieve across all subjects.

Children learn through example questions in our worksheets along with Instructor guidance. This method of learning offers so much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures your child’s independence, developing strong self-learning skills to give them the tools to help them excel in the future. Because Kumon does not follow the school curriculum and work is set according to ability, irrespective of age, our programmes allow learners both to fill in any missing gaps in their study foundations as well as the opportunity to work ahead of their school grade level. Your local Instructor will assess your child to determine at what point in the programme they should begin their Kumon study, then through daily work coupled with up to twice a week study centre visits, they will build both self-confidence and crucial skills in small manageable steps.

Jenn Appleton

About your Instructor

Welcome to Kumon Prescot. My name is Jenn Appleton and I have been a Kumon Instructor since 2016.

My passion is developing the confidence and self belief in my students from the moment we meet. My career since graduating from university has focused around teaching in both primary and secondary schools with a focus on confidence and motivational development. I truly believe that by giving children key tools to recognise their inner confidence this supports them in the future to achieve their goals.

I take great pride in my role and my passion for maths an English is extended by my loyal and hard working class assistants.

Kumon Prescot is a happy, warm and calm learning environment. We focus on can dos and give weekly personal feedback on students’ progress. I am a Kumon parent with both my children studying our maths an English programmes. I am also a working parent in a busy household and understand the juggling act needed to make family life work! I do everything I can to accommodate all families in our study centre, clear communication is key to our students success.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have about Kumon Prescot.

I look forward to welcoming you and your family to our Ofsted registered Study Centre and hope to share your child’s Kumon journey with you to watch them excel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
