The centre first opened in 2008 and runs from St Johns Hal on Pretoria Road.

The Romford Study Centre is unique, as every student is allocated an hourly time slot and the maximum number of students attending each hour is no more than 16. There is an excellent student to assistant ratio at the centre; there are four assistants working with 16 students and there are five members of staff including the Instructor.

There is also a special slot for younger learners under the age of six years old, where they can receive one-to-one instruction and guidance. Kumon caters for all ages and abilities, and the current age range at the study centre is from four to 14 years old; although there has also been a three-year-old student attending before. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

About the Instructor

Gaitry Bhogal - Rush Green Study Centre

Hello, I'm Gaitry Bhogal, the Kumon Instructor for the Romford Study Centre. I have been a Kumon Instructor for over 13 years and I thoroughly enjoy my role.

I was motivated to become a Kumon Instructor as I have always wanted to do something through which I can benefit my local community; and I am passionate about helping children to develop into better individuals so that they can help humanity improve in the future!

I have teaching experience in a secondary school and I have completed a degree, a master's degree and a PGCE. My qualifications have helped me to develop teaching skills and the ability to apply knowledge. Another very important skill I have acquired is the ability to work with students of different abilities at the same time; this is very important as a Kumon Instructor.

Over the years I have nurtured thousands of students to realise their potential. Many of my students start Kumon from as young as five or six years old and continue until their GCSE’s. The independence, maturity and character this develops in the student is remarkable; not to mention their outstanding academic skills which support them in any career they wish to embark upon.

The most rewarding element of my role is seeing the light of transformation in children's characters through studying Kumon.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

My son is 8years old and he attended for past year KUMON lessons in maths and English where he very improved his confidence and received a lot of support from Gaitry and her team. His level in maths and English improved too. Gaitry is very professional and never ignored my calls, concerns and she at all times was trying to give the best solutions. My daughter has gained a lot of confidence through Kumon. Over the last year, I’ve seen a lot of improvement in her English and Maths. Gaitry has been amazing! She is experienced and has a lot of belief in the children. She knows what level they are at and I can trust her process. An absolute must from me. I was fortunate to have started at about the age of 7 and stayed with the programme until around 15, managing to complete the English course and reached the most advanced levels in Maths. Many basic skills are learned through KUMON which I may have missed if I only had my school education. Thanks to this, I was able to develop a foundation which I would definitely credit for most of my academic achievements, even as I approach 21.

My son is in year 5 now and joined Kumon 9 months before. My main concern was his English as his English was very poor but I enrolled him for both Math and English. I liked their English curriculum a lot as it was started with basics which were really required for him. Best part which I liked was your kids get daily homework worksheets which create a routine in their life for daily study at home. But getting homework done daily from your kids is not an easy task specially when they are 10+ years. Hence it needs lots of effort from parents also but now after 9 months my son has improved a lot and I feel my efforts has been repaid. When he joined Kumon his grammar was very poor and he was not able to solve simple comprehensions but now he is at very good level. He is able to solve bit complex comprehensions as well. He has improved not only in English but Math as well. His Math concepts also improved a lot. His class teacher says he does very fast calculations and he has become more independent. Being a parent best moment of life is when class teacher appreciates your kids efforts. That time all your efforts get repaid. I think it was not possible without Kumon. Hence I want to say big thank you to Kumon.

My daughter's four-year journey with Kumon, Romford in English and Math has been amazing. It's made a big difference in her school life and beyond. Kumon's way of teaching, where she can learn at her own pace, has really helped her feel more confident and get ahead in her studies. Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
