About our centre

The Kumon Tunbridge Wells Study Centre opened in 1988 and welcomes students of all ages and abilities. We feel privileged to help local families to by developing confident, high achieving students, well prepared for their preferred secondary school.

The students at the centre range from pre-schoolers to A-level students, many arrive at the centre through personal recommendations. Students benefit from an individualised approach, where both the Instructor and assistants are keen to meet the needs of every child.

Students attending the centre include those who find maths or English challenging at school; others looking to increase their academic attainment and others for whom English is a second language.

In the classroom, students enjoy completing their work and are observed by the Instructor or assistant, offering appropriate guidance, support and praise. At each visit, a student will spend up to 30 minutes on a subject. Upon leaving the centre, each student is given daily worksheets to be completed at home.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands.

About your Instructor

Hello, I’m Tony Capozzi the new Instructor at the Kumon Tunbridge Wells Study Centre. I am delighted to be running a Kumon study centre and continuing to bring the internationally renowned programme to the local area.

I feel incredibly lucky and privileged to be working as a Kumon Instructor as it is very rewarding to witness the sense of achievement that a student gains when mastering a new topic or skill.

Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with children of all ages and abilities and enjoyed helping students discover the joy of learning and make the most of their potential.

Being a Kumon Instructor is extremely worthwhile and I would be delighted to welcome you to the centre, to help your child achieve their potential.
 

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
