KUMON CONNECT available Online Class available In-Centre Class available

At Kumon we firmly believe there is no limit to learning, irrespective of age or ability; and as such we work closely with students to enable them to reach their full potential.

The Kumon method was developed in 1954 by a dedicated parent who was trying to give his child the best possible start in life through a solid education.

We continue that dedication today at the West Bridgford centre by:

  • Inviting your child to the centre for an assessment which ensures they get off to a flying start with a starting point individual to them.
  • Developing your child’s skills and ability so they are studying above the international standard for their age, enabling them to realise their potential both at school and beyond.
  • Working closely with them to understand how they are progressing.

The West Bridgford centre benefits from a simple layout with a maximum of 12 students and 6 assistants. This ensures students experience a calm atmosphere and there is lots of support and encouragement for them.

With Kumon’s long-term focus and your families’ commitment to the program, your child will be encouraged to take learning into their own hands, increasing their motivation to succeed – inciting an enthusiasm for new topics and challenges.

Many of the students who have studied at the centre have used the skills they have gained to prepare them for entrance to local schools, achieve good GCSE and A level results and gain entrance to the university of their choice.

About the Instructor

My name is Naheed Khan and I am the Instructor at the Kumon West Bridgford Study Centre.

My Kumon journey began when my eldest niece started her Kumon in 2003. Seeing her mental maths and language skills develop to a high level, I became curious about the programme itself. My niece, now a Masters graduate, attributes her solid foundations to Kumon. Since this time, all of the children in my family have studied with Kumon in various cities, including my own son, who helps me to run the centre as my Senior Assistant.

I am passionate about education. I am equally passionate about children's mental health. Research suggessts children with higher levels of education have been associated with better mental health. At my centre, I believe in a balanced approach which works not only on building ability but also by providing a stable, nurturing approach in a safe, non-judgemental space leading to well-rounded individuals. It is extremely rewarding to design the right path for your child – this is why I love what I do.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
