About this centre

In-Centre Class available KUMON CONNECT available
Established in 2021 the Kumon West Norwood Study Centre provides individualised, worksheet-based maths and English study programmes for children of all ages and abilities.

Like other supplementary education providers, the Kumon programmes focus on academic success. However, from the very first class, we also aim to improve concentration, stamina, independence and teach good study habits; essential skills that are transferable into other aspects of the student’s life.

The students studying at our centre range from three years old to eighteen year olds, covering from pre-school to A-levels. Many have been attending the centre for over a year now and are comfortably working at advanced levels beyond their school grade.

Students complete individually set work at their ‘just-right’ level and are given homework for days they do not attend class. Most children spend approximately 30 to 40 minutes in class per subject, although this will vary depending on the child’s age and ability. The centre is a calm, focused environment where independence and concentration is encouraged in all students. There are highly trained assistants working alongside the Instructor, who closely monitor and guide students as they study.

About the Instructor

My journey with Kumon began as a parent seeking to enhance and support my daughter's educational progress. My daughter quickly became motivated and excited to do her work and she was able to apply her knowledge and understanding in her wider world. This inspired me to transition into an Instructor role to open the doors to other students to reach their potential. It is my desire to see every student that comes to my centre explore the realms of their abilities and become an even more confident and secure individual.

I am a qualified tax and trusts lawyer with over a decade of experience in the legal industry. That said, I have always had a desire to work with children in the hope that I can ‘pay forward’ and impact other lives. I am also a big advocate for continual learning which I have done in my career and continue to do as a Kumon Instructor.

As a Kumon instructor, my aim is to nurture a love for learning and encourage children to become lifelong learners. I believe that every child has the potential to achieve their goals and dreams and I am here to support and guide them on their journey.

I envision Kumon West Norwood to be a place where I can foster a safe environment for learning and self development that will equip my students for what lies ahead in their future. I pledge to hold these intelligent hearts with care and respect.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
